18. the highs & the lows

i think for every age our children hit, we mamas must think to ourselves, “my goodness, they’re growing up so fast. no way do i have a child who’s–insert age here”. it could 6 months or 16 years. it always seems like that doesn’t it?

currently , my girls are all at fabulous ages. 20.18.16.12. ( that’ll change in august then i’ll have 20.18.17.12) which actually is just as fabulous. who didn’t love 17 too?

madison turned 18 saturday! we had a fun filled, frozen weekend celebrating her.

savannah rolled in friday as i tried to hide the fact that i had spent most of the day with a migraine. we were headed out to eat & to do a little shopping which surprisingly was the cure. madison & emi were both competing in the state DECA championships and wouldn’t be home until saturday afternoon. more about that later.

i usually write a post to my girls on their birthday but this year i wanted to actually write about madison and share a little about what this last year has been for her.

junior year is notoriously the toughest year. with SAT’s to be taken and heavy course loads to be completed it can prove to be quite a doozy. madison missed weeks and weeks of school due to her concussion in october. she basically had a headache with no relief until january. yet she managed to maintain a 4.0 throughout all of that.

in a span of less than a calender year, she suffered a broken nose-had surgery, broken ribs and a torn MCL-requiring surgery. i think any of you who have been on a disciplined workout/diet regimen can relate to the major frustration and set back surgery can cause.

she got dumped by her first boyfriend and has risen above some recent drama at school.  and probably the most tragic of all…someone backed in to her car.

while i’m not sharing everything, suffice to say she’s had a tough year.  i’m certainly not trying to over dramatize what can sometimes be “just life“. what i am trying to do is encourage madison and give her a virtual pat on the back for dealing with a lot of stuff, all at one time, and being an overcomer.

on the bright side she’s been afforded some really awesome privileges and i look forward to sharing more about those in the future.

one super fun thing for her is that she was invited to come on board with Simply Charming Socials ( wedding and event planners) as an intern!

saturday at her DECA (international high school marketing and career development club) she placed second in the state competition!! which qualifies her for nationals ( in Anaheim, California!).  after dinner and presents with the family , two of her precious friends surprised her and took her out for dessert.

so despite a challenging year i’m thrilled for madison as she turns 18!  this is going to be an exciting year for her, especially with so many wonderful things ahead for her!

happy birthday little bird! dad & i are so proud of you & love you more than you’ll ever know!!
